Riverfront... Curse of the Demon... Tigers are not Afraid.

Happy Halloween! It’s been a wonderful season of the witchy, weird, and wild. Some projects have moved forward, inches adding up to miles as it were. Others have stalled a tick, yet the determination remains to get them done. Whatever the case, it’s nice to be working on creative projects with some fervor again. The sense that it’s a grind is gone, and certain ideas feel revitalizing as well as wonderful to write.

This month the fabulous folks at Horror Obsessive published two articles by me. Both followed the same idea, while remaining unique topics. The main focus involved proposing a classic film for 31 days of Halloween. Flicks that should be part of movie marathons to flesh out the season. To that end, I pitched a pair of features covering two completely different ends of the potential spectrum.

The first is Tigers Are Not Afraid. A stirring dark fairy tale out of Mexico, this movie hits in a way that’s meant to bleed an audience not necessarily kill them quick. Full of phenomenal imagery and potent metaphors, I really think it’s a classic for the modern era. Though that said, I make the case more completely in my article. So, follow the link below, and if you agree, check out Tigers Are Not Afraid.

The other is about a black and white gem called Curse of the Demon. This treasure is from 1957. If I start spouting off about it here, I’ll just end writing the article all over again. Suffice it to say, this film is the full color palette of cinematic paints put to proper use. Even if you find it cheesy, out-of-date, that sort of thing, I still think it’s worth viewing to get a taste of horror history. Check out the article for more!

Finally, this October I wanted to try and get back to doing audio fiction. I’ve been meaning to a few pieces I have ready, short then maybe longer, depending on how it goes. As such, I’ve done a reading of a brief spooky story called “Riverfront”. It’s available now on the YouTube channel, so check that out. I’ll be trying to get at least one a month done from here on out. As this is the first, it’s the most minimal, but I plan to expand as time goes by.

Otherwise, production continues on the new Beerfinger album. The goal remains to get it out sometime in November. As such, it’s no surprise my electronics have all begun to malfunction. In addition, I wrecked my body making it tricky to play – old age and hard living catch up to everyone – but things aren’t so bad progress can’t be made. Things may’ve slowed, but forward is still happening. Worse comes to worse, the album gets pushed back to December.

Meanwhile, my best to you and yours. Remember to stay safe, keep weird, and cheers!
